It looks tiny compared to a Hawken.Pyrodex will often fail to fire in a flintlock. It has a higher ignition temperature than pure black. Some shooters start with a 5-10 grain load of real black powder and then some Pyrodex over that. Sounds like a lot of fussing and won't solve your problem. These rifles usually sell for $1200 - $1600.A 1:48 twist in larger calibers (.45 and up) is generally very finicky in what it will shoot accurately with. Ask any serious Buffalo match or bench rest shooter what the twist is in their rifles. Invariably they will be 1:66; 1:72 or even 1:144.32 Cal. A twist rate of 1 in 48 is considered a general compromise, supposedly capable of accurately throwing either a patched roundball or a conical projectile. Doesn't matter if the caliber is .32 or .62. However, like most "generalists", this twist rate probably is not the best for either roundball or conical.

Investarms Hawkens are great rifles, well built and accurate. My first muzzleloader ever (bought in 1977) was a Charles Daly (Investarms) .54 Hawken, still have it, still shoots great. In my reading I see that many folks look down on the Traditions rifles in general.Here, in Henry's case he has a Pedersoli Frontier rifle. This is an advantage in that the Pedersoli is a factory made rifle and Pedersoli has a recommendation of a 0.440" ball and 0.015" thick patches.
